São Paulo, September 1, 2023: It took just one decade for PV solar energy to rise to a position of prominence in the Brazilian market. It is now the second largest electricity generation technology, accounting for 15% of the Brazilian electricity mix, with an installed capacity of 33.5 GW. It has created 1 million new jobs and accrued more than R$163 billion in investments between 2012 and 2023.
The smarter E South America, LATAM’s Innovation Hub for the New Energy World, in São Paulo, is a reflection of these impressive figures. The 10th anniversary of the exhibition and conference Intersolar South America is another indicator of how the market has evolved. During the festivities of this important milestone for the event, special Awards were dedicated to its pioneers and supporters.
The figures show that Brazil is on its way to becoming a great market player in renewable energy. The event is itself evidence of the market’s strength and growth: around 50,000 visitors came to Expo Center Norte in the three days from August 29 to 31, of whom more than 2,500 attended the conferences.
The smarter E South America brings together Intersolar South America, LATAM’s Largest Exhibition and Conference for the Solar Industry, ees South America, LATAM’s Hot Spot for Batteries & Energy Storage Systems, and Eletrotec+EM-Power South America, The Exhibition for Electrical Infrastructure and Energy Management.
The organizers of the event, Solar Promotion International GmbH, Freiburg Management and Marketing International GmbH and Aranda Eventos & Congressos Ltda are especially delighted by the volume of business deals closed by the more than 530 exhibitors from the PV, Storage and Electrical Infrastructure sector that presented their innovative products at Expo Center Norte.
Since 2021, ees South America has featured the special exhibition Power2Drive on innovative charging solutions, battery concepts and business models for sustainable e-mobility. On the show floor many exhibitors presented cars as well as light vehicles such as scooters, motorbikes and more.
Also due to the interest from the visitors a new exhibition is scheduled to debut as part of The smarter E South America in 2024: Power2Drive South America. The announcement was made by Dr. Florian Wessendorf, Managing Director of Solar Promotion International GmbH. “The smarter E South America 2024 will be set on four pillars: solar generation, batteries and storage systems, energy management and electric mobility. We’ll be launching Power2Drive, which will comprise an exhibition and conference, along with technical workshops,” declared Wessendorf.
“Brazil ranks fourth in the world in terms of capacity added last year and is one of the top ten nations with the most installed solar PV capacity, by adding together everything from large PV plants and to small distributed generation systems,” says Ronaldo Koloszuk, president of the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR).
ABSOLAR’s CEO, Rodrigo Sauaia, further remarks that solar energy is the most competitive renewable source in the country and a lever for social, economic and environmental development, for job creation and income generation, for attracting investments and diversifying the electricity mix, thus benefiting all citizens. “The growth of the solar industry strengthens sustainability, reduces household costs and increases the competitiveness of Brazilian industry. Those are increasingly important factors for the national economy and for fulfilling the environmental commitments undertaken by our country.”
The transformation of Brazil’s energy and transport sectors by making use of technologies with a potential to boost sustainability, and create new markets, business models and income generation opportunities, is also stressed by exhibitors.
Sócrates Rodrigues, BYD’s Project Director, says that “Intersolar is an extremely important and strategic exhibition for BYD, especially at this time when the solar energy market is undergoing a very positive change in Brazil. Investments are coming in and there’s a potential to grow even more, as generation capacity increases every year.” Rodrigues recalls the impact the pandemic had on business, and points out that now is the time to resume growth. The large attendance figures at the exhibition this year testify to this movement of recovery.
By Intelbras’ reckoning, the event brings new opportunities every year. This is their fourth consecutive year as exhibitors. “Our booth has had a very busy three days, with visitors of all kinds: customers, partners, installers, resellers and distributors. We realize that everyone came looking for a solid and reliable company in the market,” comments Marcio Osli, Director of the Solar Energy Unit at Intelbras. In the first hour of the first day alone, the company closed more than 20 projects. “We end the exhibition with more than 100 new contracts, which reveal the strength and trust our brand commands,” he adds.
According to Martin Kastner, Head of the Solar Energy Unit at Fronius do Brasil, “The traffic at our booth has been very good this year, well above our expectations. We received a much more qualified public, who are looking for more specific information about the adequate technology for their business.”
Exhibitors such as Araxá Engenharia, Campbell Scientific do Brasil, Canadian Solar, GD Solar, Huawei Digital Power and Risen Energy emphasize the event’s importance for market development and business generation, among other aspects. The next edition of The smarter E South America will be held from 27 to 29 August 2024.
